It is also important *not* to lose sleep at night if you have older children that used bottles or sippy cups that were not BPA-free.
The BPA-free cups on the market today vary greatly in quality. We have reviewed the Safe Sippy before because it works so very well, but we also like the Take and Toss cups by the First Years and some of the Nuby products. The bottom line is that you have to find the right BPA-free sippy cup that works for you, and stick with it!

To start with, the best sippy cups are simple for a toddler to manipulate, and this Klean Kanteen one certainly is. This is, obviously, the feature that matters the most. A preschooler should be able to easily handle and move the bpa free sippy cup. This idea may sound obvious and simple, but several bpa free cups on the market, including the bpa free cups which seem to often get a lot more thought and creativity put into their design, lack this feature. Little, still developing hands have to be able to easily move it in every direction without dropping the sippy.
Not only is this about performance, it is developmental too – you want your toddler to be encouraged by the experience of the sippy cup, not frustrated by it.
Also, a good bpa free cup, especially one without BPA, has to be simple for a parent to wash. Once more, this Klean Kanteen toddler sippy cup passes that test. It does not have a lot of components, and it can easily be disassembled and put back together. I personally prefer sippys that can go in the dishwasher, but will purchase one once in a while that must be washed by hand if it looks particularly promising. That is a personal call every parent will have to make. You may simply not have the time to purchase bpa free cups that are not dishwasher safe. Regardless, this sippy cup has only a few parts and is easy to clean, both vital characteristics of any bpa free cup.
Finally, this Klean Kanteen bpa free cup possesses, as all the best sippys do, a bpa-free label! The complete story on the long-term impacts of BPA probably won’t emerge for many years, but in the meantime, it is worth paying for those cups that are certified to be BPA free. The price difference is quite small, and the future impact on your toddler is – potentially – quite large!
